I have the pleasure to inform you, the state of the Alpha Pi Chapter is strong. Fall 2009 recruitments was a great sucess and last semester the brothers broke all previous Chapter community service records. All the while we have seen a steady increase in brother participation in both the Chapter and campus activities.
This semester the Executive Board (E-Board) and committee chairmen, have had a load lifted of their shoulders. The soaring brother participation in chapter operations has allowed the Chapter to function with high efficiency. An essential role of the E-Board is to combat apathy and strive to engage all members on all levels. Our brothers are unique individuals whom have all decided to come around a common idea. If the leadership truly understands each brother’s distinct motivation for joining, it will be able to effectively match all brothers with a duty and responsibility. Doing so makes for a exceedingly functional organization of highly motivated individuals. Following that philosophy we have encountered great success.
At the beginning of our E-Boards term the other officers and I worked to implement the ideas and policies which we had campaigned on. It is often difficult for such green leadership to successfully accomplish all of its goals. As leaders of equals the Prytanis and rest of the E-Board must know where the brothers want to be in a year, month or even that day. In order to ensure our understanding of brotherhood goals and raise the bar we planned a chapter retreat. Historically, our retreats have been held in the Universities Marvin Center. This year we decided it was time to get away from the on campus attractions and take a little trip. The weekend before rush began we chartered a bus and made the trek to rural Stanley, Virginia. Alpha Pi has been blessed with one of the most active, and competent Board of Advisors any Chapter could ask for. Chairman of the Board Jim Totten and Board member Tony Clemens led the chapter in a multitude of exercises and activities. By the time we left, the brothers were fired up for rush, excited for the semester and mar
ching the same direction.
A strong chapter must fight to stay strong. The brothers of our Chapter know that complacency and stagnation can creep into the best chapters. That is why we are constantly working to improve ourselves, and evaluating our progress.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Casal
